Risk, Responsibility, and Reality: How Goto Electrical Stays Ahead in Health & Safety
Goto Electrical believes strongly in Health and Safety, and endeavours to be at the leading edge to ensure our safety complies with legislation, and most importantly, to get everyone home safely.
Section 35 of the Queensland Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 states:
"A duty holder, in managing risks to health and safety, must –
(a) eliminate risks to health and safety so far as is reasonably practicable; and
(b) if it is not reasonably practicable to eliminate risks to health and safety — minimise those risks so far as is reasonably practicable."
This is very important to understand, as this is the threshold that Directors (and designers and managers) will need to demonstrate if something very unfortunate was to occur.
Our Managing Director, David Holman, recently attend the Engineers Australia Training Course “Criminal Manslaughter – How Not To Do It” (https://eea.org.au/.../criminal-manslaughter-how-not-do-it) which was an eye opening and invaluable insight into how the law sees our risk assessment and risk reduction practices.
We recommend directors, managers, and engineers attend this course, or even read the book by R2A Due Diligence Engineers “Criminal Manslaughter & How Not To Do It – A Practical Guide for Directors” (https://www.r2a.com.au/.../r2a-criminal-manslaughter...).
Understanding the difference between SFAIRP (So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable) and ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) is key to best practice in safety.
