From Sodium to Smart: Intelligent Lighting Upgrade

Goto Electrical has undertaken several projects that involve the risk assessment, design, and control of industrial lighting.

Who turned out the lights? If your lights are controlled by SCADA then you can readily switch them on, off, dim them, or fully optimise the lighting system to provide increased safety and energy efficiency for your plant.

The photos below were just the start of a lighting upgrade for a container facility - you can see the old high pressure sodium lighting in the background that had significant lighting scatter, poor colour, low efficiency, and high maintenance costs. Goto Electrical worked closely with the client and stakeholders to develop a design and scope of work for the lighting upgrade. It was identified that by using industrial DALI controllers we could control each luminaire to provide the following advantages:

1. Soft-start each luminaire to reduce in-rush current,

2. Reduce lighting energy during twilight periods, and when the areas are not in use.

3. Fully optimise the lighting system to reduce energy and provide even lighting levels.

Goto Electrical developed and commissioned a Siemens PLC controlled DALI system that will be able to provide full remote control, monitoring and optimisation of the lighting system.
