Law Enforcement Training Facility

We engineered and delivered a fully integrated Range Management System (RMS) designed to coordinate, automate, and safeguard complex training environments incorporating advanced targetry, lighting, ventilation, safety, and security subsystems. Built on a robust Siemens industrial automation platform, the RMS brings together multiple operational technology systems into a single, seamless control architecture.

Powered by a Siemens S7‑1500F Safety PLC with decentralised ET200SP I/O, the RMS performs high‑speed control, diagnostics, and SIL3‑rated safety logic across two independent training ranges. A central Siemens WinCC Professional SCADA server, provides real‑time visualisation, event logging, and a browser‑accessible WebUX interface for operators and maintainers.

The RMS integrates with a wide ecosystem of facility systems using industry‑standard protocols, including BACnet/IP, ModbusTCP, Profinet, and SNMP. These interfaces enable coordinated control of the Targetry Control System, Lighting Control System (KNX/Modbus gateway), Building Management System, AV/PA system, fire system, and building security network.

Environmental and safety automation includes intelligent control of dimmable multi‑colour LED lighting, laminar flow ventilation control for live‑fire scenarios, automatic fault detection, and emergency shutdown logic triggered by distributed SIL3 emergency stop devices. A structured sequencer ensures all subsystems transition through safety, lighting, ventilation, fire readiness, and access‑control states before training can begin.

With hot‑swappable I/O, redundant SSD‑based network storage, industrial UPS systems, and isolated VLAN segments for security, the RMS provides a resilient, cyber‑conscious OT solution engineered for life‑safety, reliability, and instructor confidence. This project demonstrates our capability to integrate advanced automation, mission‑critical safety systems, and high‑security OT networks into a unified digital control ecosystem.
